    One of my comercial clients had me fill out a w-9 form today. What in the sam hill is a w-9 form for anyway?

    Sure it wasnt a 1099? I get those from some commercials,havent heard of a w9.

    The w 9 is simply a form requesting your information. It is likely that he is requesting your information so that he can file a 1099 on expenses paid to you.

    I filled one out yesterday as a matter of fact. they just need it so they have your official info for 1099 purposes.

    your employer paid you over $600 last year and he is obligated to report it to the IRS. You will get a 1099 from him soon that will show this amount he paid you. When you do your taxes you have to reoprt it as income.
