Walker-Kubota Cutting out while running???

    My 4 cylinder (gas) Kubota Walker is cutting out while running.
    It will start up and run, but not a smooth running sound. you can hear it spit and sputter slightly. within 5 mins., It starts to REALLY spit & sputter and then dies.

    I've changed the fuel filter, cap/rotor, cleaned the carb. with no change in the result.
    Fuel is being pumped into the carb from the fuel pump.

    Does anyone have any ideas as to what may be the problem?

    does it restart after it dies? If not, check for spark at each cylinder.

    There was a problem with some of the gas Kubotas, where they would get moisture buildup under the cap of the spark plug wire. Condensation would get in the end that fits on the plug, and cause a problem like you are describing. I believe Kubota redesigned the plug wires to fit tighter on the plugs. Grasshopper had this problem with the Kubota gas engines they use on their machines.:)

    Thanks for the quick response guys,

    xcopterdoc: Yes, it will start back up after it dies, But sometimes not so quickly. I may have to choke it to get it started up again.

    Mowingman: I've had that moisture problem many times in the past! (I put the machine in the garage on rainy nights/days to reduce this) I thought that may have been the problem but I went through and blew/dried out everything and am still having the problem.

    Not sure about the wires I put on, Be a new design though?
    will have to look into that

    Is it a EFI system? If so remember to use only resistor wires and plugs. The RF caused by not using resistor wires and plugs can cause all kinds of problems. This has been the case with cars for years and now it is for mowers and tractors as well. Progress, isn't it wonderful?

    you have to determne whether it is a fuel or electricial problem ,you say you have to choke it to start it when it dies ,tends to tell me that its a fuel problem,yo usaid you chk the fuel filter ,was this a in line filter,Most moweres have another filter in the tankat the bottom so all the crap gets stuck in it ,i just did a diesel cub with the same problem ,there was two pieces of grass stuck in the fitting that goes into the tank,im not sure what you have but i would start there

    I took a look inside the tank and it was not too dirty but it was an old style tank w/ the outlet in the rear lower corner. I took the line off and found it was a bit plugged in the shutoff. So I went to the Walker Dealer and bought the new style (top outlet) tank that dangles the fuel line/filter inside to prevent the clogging.
    Came home, installed and problem gone!
