Just wondering if anyone follows a maintenance schedule to replace the PTO u joints or just inspect and replace when there is some signs of wear. Don't want the joint to break in the middle of the season and have to replace the shaft as well.

As long as you give the joints a shot of grease now and then they will last a long time. The splined shafts show less wear than the old rectangled shafts. My Walker is a 1996 and with 4 decks, I have never replaced a u-joint.

Just be absolutely sure that the joint takes grease. I pull the deck and slip the back part off to grease. The flex shaft can freeze up over time so be sure and slide it to keep it free.
