I am cutting w/2003 48" Gravely hydro/walkbehind. It has a 15 hp kawi. I am told the 17 hp Kawi is the same engine w/a different carb. If I want to boost my 15hp to 17 do I have to get a new carb or just modify the existing carb? Also, will an extra 2 hp make a noticable difference? Thanks for your help......

The 2 horsepower should make a difference. The 2 parts that may be different are the carb and the camshaft. Have someone check the part numbers to see if they're the same between the 15 and 17.

I know that the bore and stroke on the 17 HP is 2.68" by 2.68"

The two do appear very similar externally

The 25 had an aluminum intake and the 27 has a plastic intake.

The carbs LOOKED identical, but may have been jetted different.

Power difference: Yes, but I was going from a 1500 hour engine to a brand new engine.

Realistically, there is a lot more torque available. The exhaust note has more "rasp" to it so I'm pretty sure most of it is in the cam.

The 27 uses more fuel than the 25 did, a good bit more.

There is way more low-mid range power. Top end feels about the same.
