  1. always w/ a stick edger for me, stihl km90, leaves a clean, straight line every time and you dont end up eating up string like you do when you use the trimmer.

I use a trimmer for pretty much all my edging.

I always use an edger...I personally like the look of it better. I use a Redmax stick edger but I am also thinking about the Tanaka push edger.

Let me preface myself by reminding the original poster that a "Weed-Eater" is a brand of line trimmer. I take it you aren't doing maintenance with home-owner grade tools so call it a line trimmer.

Stick edgers are for making edges and it happens to be that a line trimmer can be used; but a line trimmer can be used to trim a hedge, too.

If you are a specialist you will use specialist equipment.

I have been using the trimmer, but beginning of next season I plan on purchasing an attachament stick edger for one of my straight shaft trimmers, or jut a regular edger maybe. No more big purchases for me for while anyways. I would like to pay off my Gravely first. That'll probably happen over the winter.

Always an edger. Some guys can pull it off with a trimmer, but edger is faster and leaves better results IMO.
