I have a Ryobi Weed Trimmer that is about 4 years old. Lately when I start it the trimmer starts spinning without me pulling the trigger. When I do pull the trigger it takes several seconds for it to rev up to speed for me to weed eat or edge. Is this a waste of my time and money to try and fix myself or have someone fix? Any ideas about this would be most appreciated.

If I understand you correctly, it spins when you are at idle ? If this is the case, you might have a broken or weak clutch spring. Easy enough repair if you can get it apart. If you are not into repairing it yourself, take it to your dealer and have him look at it. A clutch spring is a few bucks, the shoes are alot more.
