I've been told 2 totally opposing stories for material choice as a buffer between grassed areas and the outer building perimeter.

1- 3/4" or down crushed rock - use this because the rodents can't harbour in fine aggregates as they could in between larger 3" rock

2- 3" or greater - use this because rodents (mice) don't like to cross the larger gap size

So what do you guys think is the superior rodent buffer material choice?

anything from bird shot to buck shot works for me.

I'm skeptical that any aggregate will stop rodents from crossing it.

It won't stop them from crossing it, but it will stop them from burrowing under or through it. I prefer mid-size StayMat for the sharp edges and the good compaction.
