I was asked to bid a job to remove 11,000 square ft x 6" of B gravel from a yard to prepare it for concrete.
With calculations i have done I come out with approx 16 to 20 tri axle load of material. The owner is saying he thinks 3 to 4 load should clean it up
Just approximate figuring am i way out with the loads count?

I figured 18 loads based on 20 tons per truck and a weight of 1.75 tons per yard. So I'd say you're in the right ballpark.

I come up with 16.5 loads(20 ton), but that does not count compacted rock, so I would be a little more.

Show your customer the math if you feel it might help. 11,000sqft by 6 inches is 5500 cubic feet. Divide 5500 by 27 is 203.7 cubic yards. If you think compaction is 5% add 10.2 cubic yards or 10% add 20.4 cubic yards. So maybe a total of 213.9 or 224.1 cubic yards. Do not know how you guys up north prep for concrete prehaps you can bid to leave some material on site and re-compact. Good luck-make money!

If it is compacted to 95% it will weigh 10-15% more than the calculated volume. Swell will be ~20% from 95% to in the truck. Not up to running the numbers tonight.

On second thought, I think your customer is right. You can do it in 3 or 4 loads. You just need one of these.

I have not seen the job .. but will be stock piling the spoils and the customer says he will take care of trucking later
