I'm kicking the idea around of buying a long bed one ton dually, removing the bed, and adding a landscape bed with dove tail. What would something like this cost? Could I buy a truck that already has a regular flatbed and then just weld on a dove tail, tail gate, and expanded metal sides?

I would expect $2500-$3500. You probably would want a longer wheelbase than just your standard long bed 3500. I outfitted a dodge 3500 long bed and I could only get about 13' body on it(9' deck and 4' dovetail). Also you probably want a better truck than a 3500 for hauling 2-4k in the bed everyday. The standard landscape body is 16'-20'. You probably need a cab and chassis or just get an isuzu.
