Researching f350 / 450 / 550 dumps and wondering what I should look for when buying one used. Ive heard the 6.0 engine is bad, is that for all years? Other than that is there something good to look for? I want year 2000 and older and less than 120k miles.
    thanks

Powerstroke 7.3 is a great engine.

A 7.3 will cost you a few hundred when it breaks down . A 6.0 will cost you a grand every time it goes in the shop.

Good luck brother! People want top dollar for pre 6.0. I'm still looking for a cabover dump or 450/550 with a 7.3.

People keep on swearing 7.3 I have had two of them and one has been a money pit. Worst then bullet proofing a 6.0 the later 05 and on 6.0 are better. Problem is the newest 7.3 is a 12 year old truck so gaskets bushing rubber all that starts breaking down. Be ready to put some money into what ever used truck you buy. Most people don't realize when you move into the 450/550 repairs get expensive and your average dealer is not equipped to work on them, you have to take them to a truck shop

I'm looking for a new dump truck, since my old one died. I'm not a Ford guy, but...a friend of mine had thought about selling his 2000 F450 12 ft dump with a backpac, and 65,000 miles on the odometer. He was thinking $ 18,000. The good ole 7.3 has a whopping 200hp. What do you guys think.

6.0 for life. And get a 550. You can't haul anything in those
