I am looking into a 48in or 36in walk behind, but i have never owned or used a walk behind. i am wondering what i should do when it comes to floating deck or fixed deck, hydro or gear drive, and i only have three brand choises, John Deere, Scag (maybe if the dealer is willing to place an order he isn't really looking for business), and Toro. When do i want these features?
I am planning to use the mower on my smaller yards in town, with gates and some without, becuase my 60 ztr just doesnt do well there being a front deck.
    Thank you for your time
    Jake

Floating decks make changing your hieght of cut a breeze. 30 seconds and you're done. Fixed deck. sucks. but cheaper. Hydro is much stronger(you may use a sulkie) and can operate in rain or wet conditions no problem. Belt drive is weaker and doesn't do well in rain or wetness. i vote Scag. They're great.
