I had 3 pine tree's (60 ft+) removed over the weekend, they left 3 mounds with holes full of chips. My question is how do I smooth the mounds out and do I have to dig out the wood chips from the stump grinder, add top soil, then plant grass or what?

yea you will have to dig out the wood chips... if you leave them in and just seed over them over time they will decompose and settle and youll get a diviot. after you dig them out fill it back up with a fill dirt i wouldnt use topsoil bc that settles over time and youd be left with a divot again

Also, the fresh wood chips will not have a pH that is turf friendly. Put in some nice loam after you get rid of the chips and then seed.

u gonna have settling anyway bud. unles they somehow removed the root system.
id put some dirt in,plant grass an plan on fixin it a couple o times over the next 5-6 yrs.unless somebody knows somethin i dont . this is just gonna happen.

  5. remove chips, add topsoil, seed
also you will get mushrooms once the roots start to decay.

Exactly. It could happen longer even than 5-6 years.
