what to look for , buying used truck

    i am looking at a 2000 f250 5.4ltr 4x4. can anyone advise what to look at engine wise and drivetrain wise. body is clean, but its the mechanics i would like to check. thanks

    I'm assuming you are going to tow with it, and how much weight. With that engine you want the lowest gear ratio you can get. What trans does it have? These trucks are very sound as long as you do the maintenance. Don't expect good fuel mileage. If you are going to keep the truck for a while consider a Powerstroke.

    Save yourself some grief and take the truck to a shop and have it looked over by a certified mechanic. Most shops usually charge 1/2 to 1 hr labor to check one out. Its money well spent. Could save ya a bunch in the long run.
