What type of grass is this...

    it almost looks like tall fescue...can't tell really from the pic

    Looks too wide for fescue...more like Kentucky Bluegrass to me.

    tough to tell from that pic, but i also think it looks like kentucky blue. get a close up of a blade, and maybe an auricle or ligule if you can.

    You would have to be able to examine the ligules, auricles, collar, blade and vernation to get a better idea. The characteristic difference between KBG and Tall Fescue are:

    Vernation - KBG is folded - Tall Fescue is rolled
    Seedhead is shaped slightly different, we don't see one of those in the pic
    KBG has rhizomes and Tall Fescue does not but we would probably have to dig a little to check for rhizomes.

    Based on this, I think I see a rolled leafbud at the bottom right of the picture which makes my guess Tall Fescue.
