I have a John Deere JS63 21" self-propelled and I was wondering what the correct type of engine oil is to use. I've been told 10W-30, but I'm not quite sure. I bought this off of my grandfather, and he did not have a manual to it.

I believe in running 10w-30 in the winter time and 30w in the summer time.

Run SAE 30 oil in it in the summer.

If there is a Kawasaki or Briggs engine, Run 10W-30 in it for summer and winter. FYI it says "use 10W-30 oil" on the dipstick in the 15HP Kawasaki engine on my Bob-Cat mower ( which I love ).

You'll get all kinds of answers on that question.. If in doubt, contact your dealer or go online to Deere.
