A guy is selling a scag sabre tooth with approx 3000 hrs, he says its either 04 or 05. He has bill of sale, it looks like its in good shape but just needs a cleaning. He's asking 3500 obo. Sounds like a deal if all is as he says in good shape? any insight? He's 3 hrs away and he says the mowers are at his farm, and can give me exact hours when he goes back to farm. here's his ad:

72" Commercial Model Scag Sabre Tooth Tiger
    Used but in good shape
    31HP 3cyl Gas Daihatsu Engine
    Everything works well
    Suspension Seat
    Good Tires
    Sharp Blades
    New Belts
    Always maintained on time
    Runs Smooth and Starts everytime

    This machine will last forever
Very Dirty in picture - looks much better in person

    Mows at 10.5 MPH !!!

    Any valuable insight? Thank you

I just saw that add as well. Thats a lot of hours if you ask me. It would be a great deal if he met you halfway, and you got it for $2900.

Ad says "gas" engine, but isn't that a diesel engine?

You may want to do a little research on that engine because no one uses Daihatsu any more, and I thought I heard there were some problems.

Scag still does according to their site. It's supposed to be a really BA engine. The new version of this mower is very nice.

Toro also uses Diahatsu, as well as Kubota in for their diesel engines.

B@S Daihatsu made a gas and diesel version. The engines are said to be very good engines. I just bought a STT with a 72" and a 31 Daihatsu turbo diesel for $9900-it only had 393 hours and looked almost new. It also had a new battery installed. That seems like a good price for a lot of mower-it's a lot of hours but even if you had to rebuild the engine down the road, it's still a good price. However, everyone is negotiable-take him $2900 and he may take it.

Someone correct me if I am wrong, but unless you are going to just be mowing a lot in a straight line, as in not many turns, you don't want one of these mowers. I believe the hydro pumps are quite bigger and take a lot of the power from the blades. Just an fyi, but I don't know what you're gonna be using it to mow
