I'm trying to decide on what kind of equipment to purchase. My three choices are Bobcat, Exmark, and Toro. I'm looking at getting a ZTR 52" and a walkbehind 48". If anyone has ever used these types of equipment let me know. Also do you think that a 61" ZTR is too big to start out with.

I HAVE HAD A GREAT SUCCESS WITH EXMARK. IT IS A GREAT MOWER AND THEY REALLY BACK THEM UP WITH THE WARRANTY. I CAN ONLY TELL YOU THAT MUCH, SOMEONE ELSE MAY BE ABLE TO GIVE YOU A BETTER IDEA FOR I HAVE NEVER OWNED A BOBCAT OR TORO.

I have a 54" bobact belt drive w/b and a 52" lazer Z. Collegiate was right about exmark. I have only had mine since mid september and it has close to 1300 hours but =it runs as good as some of the newer ones I have driven. I bought the bobcat used in december 02 and it has been great as well.
Bottom line: If budget allows, go with exmark

i would say get a 52" toro walk behind only if the yards you're mowing will permit it and i'd get a 48" ZTR instead of a 52" the 48" is much more maneuverable

I have a 20hp Walker, with 3 decks. Side dishcharge, bagging, and mulching deck. My Walker is like my little baby, it's awesome...

I have a 52" Toro Hydro walk behind and it has done me good. I can not say anything bad about it.

Deck size depends upon the customers lawns. I use a 48" Lazer HP for my mostly residential business. I'm sure a 52" deck would work almost as well. 61" would be overkill for the properties I service. If I was to buy a walk-behind it would be a 36", but I don't really need one right now. The size of lawns are from 13,000 Sq. Ft. to over an acre. I see alot of Bobcats in use by others, but have never used one myself so I can't comment, they are sold by the Deere dealer here in town. I don't see many Toro machines in my area, but then there is not a dealer within 20 miles or so. I have nothing but good to say about the Exmark I have, but I'm a bit concerned about the dealer. They are a hardware store and a new Home Depot is to be built in addition to the existing Lowe's. I just don't know if they can last selling power equipment only.

    cooks,

Your question is which of the 3 brands of mowers you mentioned is the best to buy. You have named 3 good brands. Actually, that question is really too subjective and all you will get for replies are people stating that they love their particular brand of mower. Actually, the best one, IMO, is the closest dealer with the best service. The dealer is the one who will keep them running for you.
