Are there any difference when using a straight trimmer over a curved trimmer.

You can get more power through a straight shaft.

Curved trimmers are designed for occasional use, with homeowners as the target consumer.

Straight shaft trimmers are designed for daily use by professionals.

Trimmers and blowers are the most important tools you will have so its not something I would take lightly when purchasing. Buy the best and you will have equipment that you can depend on for a long time. My first commercial trimmer lasted 5 years before I replaced it.

The way I see it, curved shaft trimmers are fine for some good old fashioned "weed whackin", but (IMO) they're terrible for cutting a straight edge with the line/string spinning vertically. Straight shafts seem more versatile to me as they work great whether you're trimming with the line spinning horizontally or vertically.

that's why they make stick edgers.

using a trimmer to edge does not produce a quality edge.

Straight shafts you have a longer reach which is a useful under plantings/trees.

Not to mention the max line diameter on the curved shaft trimmers is usually .08 not the " get er done" .095 and up on the straight shaft trimmers

To me this is one of the most important things, being able to reach up under something.
