WHen do you replace blades?

I am not sure when a mower blade needs to be replaced. Are there any set guidlines on when to replace them? To be honest, in the past, I have been guessing. If the cut started to look bad, I'd have them replaced. I've got an old retired guy mowing this year and he is fanatic about sharpening the blades. Consequently, I am going thru blades like never before. Any info greatly appreciated.

I change/sharpen my blades once a week and im only mowing 7 lawns. if im going to be mowing in wet conditions all week i sharpen every day. i would rather always have to sharpen blades then have them get dull on the route

Every 50-60 hours for me. When I start leaving some stringers I change them.
