Usually when the grass is growing which is in Sept/Oct depending on your location. I also get quite a few requests in April/May at the beginning of the season. We have heavy clay soil so multiple aerations are really the key. My home lawn gets it twice a year.

We did all of ours last week.
With the overseeding, we try and make sure to get it done in enough time before the deep freeze hits.
Usually in my area, I hear it's best to do no later than mid October, but it always depends on the weather.

To answer the original question, I started the 2nd week of September, could have started earlier. With all the rain and cooler weather this year, the conditions were good enough to have started in August if I wanted. That's rare. I will finish my last tomorrow.
