Just starting out and I need to buy a new trimmer and need some advice as to which is the best to get. I am considering a Stihl fs110 or fs130r. The 110 retails for $349 and the 130 retails for $399. Is it worth the extra $50 for the 130? The other option is an Echo brand. Need some input as to which is the better brand for commercial use.

    thanks for your help!:usflag:

I like the echo cause I'm tall and echos longer far as the size goes get the big one you may need that extra power one day.

I've got a Stihl FS90R and Echo SRM 210. The Stihl has plenty of power for heavier trimming, but I like the Echo better for everyday trimming. I want a Redmax TR2301s because it only weighs a little over 9 lbs., but there is no dealer near me. I ordered one online and dealer said they would ship it next day. About 2 weeks later, I call them and they tell me they don't have any in stock.

I would go with a light trimmer for everyday trimming because a heavy more powerful trimmer can start to wear you out. If you have the money, buy both.

The FS 90R is what you should be looking at plenty of power.

If you go stihl get either the FS-80R or FS-250R. The 4-mix trimmers are junk imo. The blowers are ok but stick with two stroke units. They are tried and true.

I don't care what anyone says, the 4-mix engines in the stihl equipment are great engines. They have been out for years and many people who don't like them, had a bad experience many years ago, or just don't even give them a try. I love my 4-mix engines. The 110 should have plenty of power for daily trimming and heavy growth. If you get too big of one, it could become a little heavy for daily trimming.

Have you guys heard of the Lehr Propane trimmers? They run on those small propane canisters - the kind you'd use to power your camping stove or bbq. One canister supposedly lasts for 2hours. I've used the Echo and its great, especially the line feed, but the Lehr is more Eco Friendly...
