I've been mowing a half-acre of grass (my own lawn) for several years now. First, I used a high quality 21-inch mower (too much work/time). More recently, I used a Toro Timemaster (took it back because it hydrolocked and started leaking gas 60 days after purchase). Now, I'm wondering what my best option is for about $1,500 or less (I don't want a riding mower). I could get a nice used Toro 32 or 36 belt drive, but would that be too much for me? I'm not a big guy (5' 10" 150lbs.), I'm not mechanically inclined, and I don't have a pickup truck to transport the mower when it needs service. If it matters, my lawn is thick St. Augustine that I mow at 4". The lot is gently sloped, but not "hilly." Please give me your recommendations. Thanks.

I have a Toro 32" belt drive that I use on mostly 1/4 to 1/3 acre lots. The only disadvantage with the belt drive is that going in reverse requires a little bit of effort. These smaller deck WB mowers, which are generally in the 15 hp range, have plenty of power for just about anything. The cut is absolutely outstanding, and it is at least twice as productive as a 21" mower.

You should be able to find a very nice used machine in your price range.
