Either of the Stihl's will serve you well. I have an HT101 and it has great power and balance.

Echo's PPT-230 is one of the best power pruners out there, longer reach and plenty of power and ergonomically designed. www.alamia.com $499.00 w/free shipping and no tax.

Have you thought of getting a Stihl Kombi system? Thats what I've got and the pole pruner on it works great. I also use it for extended reach hedge trimmers. The powerhead is about 300 and the pole saw is 200, and you can get an extension for about 70, so the price is right about the same as the ones you mentioned. Echo has the same setup also, but I'd recommend the Stihl

I have the HT 131 and love it. Plenty of power, long reach. It's seen plenty of use in the 8 months I've owned it with no problems.
