Hi everyone, I was curious how many of you have converted their gas mowers to propane? I have been looking into it and wanted to get some feedback from others. How easy is it? How much is the kit, best place to order the kits, etc. any feedback is appreciated thanks!

Propane conversions have become much more appealing as the price point of propane is cheaper, fuel is cleaner which helps reduce on maintenance and is consider a green fuel. There are several OEM models out there today that no conversion is needed, or you can go down the conversion road. There are several conversion kits out on the market (some better than others), although not many at the moment that are EPA certified that would allow you to take advantage of the federal incentive. These can range from $400-$1500 depending on the system. With these incentive, we have seen a ROI in a little as 5 weeks due the difference in fuel cost. If you would like to discuss further, we can take it off-line.

We have converted 7 Hustler Super Z 60" with the Kawasaki FX850 and 1 Wright Stander rapid height 36" with the Kawasaki FS600. We have seen an incredible amount of fuel savings. The oil after 100 hours looks almost like new. Oil still needs to be changed though because of the heat breaking it down. We went with Metro Lawn Conversions (A division of Amerigas). You can talk to your dealer about them getting setup so you have somewhere to go to for service or Metro Lawn may work with you as well. The kits consist of replacing the carb with a lp throttle body, installing a regulator and then mounting the tanks. Very simple install using Metro Lawn Conversions.

All propane companies are able to offer this type of service. Metro is not the only one. ferrellgas, suburban Lampton love also perform similar service.

What is an approximate cost to convert a mower and what are the overall savings? Is there any loss of power using propane?
