We went for years here with relatively no surface insect problems (mostly because the lawns grew faster than the insects could harm them).

Last year was a surprise to us when we had our "once every 10 year" drought. Then they showed up. I treated during the summer when doing checkups.

This year they were back with a vengeance. Mostly chinch bugs. I treated them after the fact again. The damage was minimal on most, but moderate on others where they just showed up in a big way. In all, I have about 10 lawns that need some seeding.

If this is going to be the trend every year, I will be forced to add it to the mix in the May visit. I make it a point not to dump tons of pesticides on lawns when it is not justified. It does not make agronomic or economic sense. Until now:mad:
