who's selling?

    I think we are slightly higher new customer ratio compared to cancels from last season. Our area is flooded with scotts, trugreen and hate to say it but many mow guys who lowball by applying fert/wc illegally on there clients turf. I have actually herd many times from prospective customers "I dont know how he is making any money". That puts a smile on my face.

    Most of the time our cancels are from someone going cheaper, which is fine by me.

    As far as doing estimates, get a rough idea of area online, give them rough price. If they don't baulk at it, give them a real estimate face to face. We are one of the few that still walk off lawns.

    We measured a 300k property that trugreen had at 255.

    Also, pay more and get better guys if you cant trust them to be your face. All of our techs can measure and meet with clients, and do. Spring time and sometimes during the season we have our veteran guys doing estos but when a neighbor asks how much an app would be, you better have a good employee that can reel them in and walk the lawn.

    We concentrate all our efforts on keeping our cancellation rate as low as possible (5%) with the best service possible. Number of sales ,trucks ,employees etc. means nothing if at the end of the year your not making a profit.

    Most of our work comes from referrals and our website. Give people good service with a fair price and everything else falls into place. Pretty simple. Call people back even if you can't perform the work, be courteous, uniforms, clean trucks and a passion for what you do and everything works out well.

    Use quality product, buy in bulk. Use enough product and don't short change people. Do a good job and actually care that that pawn looks better than there neighbors.

    Finally, charge accordingly for all the above

    Id say half spring calls are referrals and other half advertising. Later on in the season and fall most of them are referrals

    Wow just did some math and our cancellation rate was about 2.5% or about 50 customers. This was according to my dad who really doesn't track this.

    My guess is its really more like 4-5%...

    Another thing to do is follow up calls. Our main sales guy gets a lot of accounts by calling a couple days later after the quote

    Im finished closing for the season. Tired of the pitch. Think instead i will be selling our leads for $100 each. Have 27 missed calls over the weekend. Bulk deals.... lol
