i was looking a an avergae bench grinder the other day at sears, maybe 45 bucks. the guide is totally adjustable to get the proper angle on the blade.

what is the advantage of a $200+ model?

Balancers are more important on single blade mowers Adam.

do you mean the RPM of the wheel? or is it bigger and easier to work with?

i run 21" Lawnboys 99% of the time. a few unbalenced blades have destroyed the "drum" on top that the recoils grabs. litterally cracked them. i have now added a big washer under the nut to stengthen it, but i still perfer an optimal balence anyway. here, its cheaper to buy a new balde irather them have them sharpen them... trying to weigh my options this year, maybe buy a nice sharpener.

I have a 12" wheel, 1.5 hp Oregon that spins at almost 8000 rpm. I can do a trashed blade in like 2 minutes or less. Since I do like 40 of them a week, it's important to me...so I can do other maintenance things as well on Saturday.:)

You will definately feel a unbalanced blade on a 21" mower much more over a 60" Z for sure.

Only time I use an angle grinder is to do our brush hog blades...I prefer my bench grinder for the Z's and WB's.
