why you need systems

    Efficiency, the reason most of us are on Lawn Site is we are looking for ways to improve our business or if we have a problem, ways to resolve them. I'm sure most of us arn't on here just to kill some time.

    What you suggest makes no sense unless you care to share or give some insight to this so called system.

    I have a question for you. Why are you on Lawn Site?

    He's talking about business development...managing and growing your business.
    Beyond just scheduling and billing you need to set up procedures of how things should be done to increase productivity etc...
    For example....when a call comes in what questions are asked, do you quote prices over the phone? Etc...

    At some point many would like to take a vacation or have someone do office work or sales...how do you tellem how to do the jib unless you write it down....systems or routines, protocols.

    Consistency helps keep things predictable...predictible businesses are easier to manage

    Sure it does. Every single business can be streamlined with process improvements, workflow, and systems. If you put a system in place for, say, bidding, it should be something that anyone that works for you can learn and follow. If it's something as simple as looking at Google maps, doing a survey of the property, noting mowable areas, trees, sidewalks and drives, and assigning various values, you now have a system. A "so called system" seems to be looking for a simple answer or one that has a name ascribed to it, when the reality is that you just need to take a look at your various functions and form a followable 1-2-3...system.

    I would live to have a system of handling estimates, pricing, sales, billing and marketing. I just don't even know where to start. I keep so much in my brain, if something happened to me, nobody would even have a clue on how to pick up where I left off. I think systems of operations are very important, like I said, I don't even know where to start

    I've been the worst about this until recently. ..getting together an employee handbook and starting to make a daily, weekly routine for when I need someone to take over for me for a week or so...
