Crazy thought, how are you practicing for your CDL test? Why not get someone with a cdl to go with you, will be a good practice test run. and you'll get the feel of the truck and trailer for swing around corners and room needed to stop. You will need someone with a cdl to go with you to your test and they check their license since in the case you fail there is a way to get the truck home.

I have a 38ft gooseneck that weighs 8k its self I pull it alot with a F350 7.3powerstoke with no problem pulling empty now with a load you tell its behind you
one time was over on my plates when I had my 7740 and 4600turfshaper and Skid loader then ATV on the top deck Could tell it then
So now we dont travel much so the trailer only gets used to haul big round bales of hay
You can do that but you have to have a CDL learners permit.
So pulling a trailer without brakes in an inappropriate truck is a potential option, but pulling the same trailer with brakes in an appropriate truck but no liscence....naaaa that would never work.
Call me crazy but how do you go for your license without first having a permit? I know you need to in Maine and it is pretty laid back here.
I didn't have to have a permit. I took the written and the practical and they gave me a license.
Just get someone to drive your dump, that's your only option. Pulling it with your pickup really isn't an option, since we all know how air cans work and air needs to be supplied to release the brakes, not to apply them.
You can back the brakes off mechanically if needed. I agree though, pulling with a pickup is a bad idea. Pulling 9k behind a 3/4 ton pickup with no way to brake the trailer is a receipe for disaster. Pulling with a dump truck by an unlicensed but hopefully competent operator is a better idea although could be expenive if you get stopped. Like Scag said, find a driver.
That trailer may have a 30 brake can on it. which means all he would have to do would be to drain the air tank and the brakes would release. No air would be required to release the brakes. If it has 30/30 cans then he would need air or would have to cage the brakes. Looking at a few online pictures it looks like they are/were still using the 30 brake can around 98.
