I have a client that has 3 large (about 17 feet) Arborvitae on their property line. They want me to take 5 feet off the top of them in order to get more sun into their yard. Do you think they will survive if I just top them?

Excellent. I kind of figured they would be fine, but I would rather be safe than sorry! Thank you!

I've seen cedar trunks, 6" in diameter that had to have been cut to about 4' tall, at a very old age. ArborVitae is a cedar... I was pruning that hedge for years before I learned that they were trees at one time...
People in the neighborhood seemed to think they were like that since the turn of the last Century... So I agree, it shouldn't hurt a thing... :)
