Someone is after an outdoor woodstove. I need to know if those things will cut this ground. Its frosty Im sure but I read online those teeth are made to cut through hard ground, Ice, rock, etc. And then 3 different rental guys told me probably not... maybe they dont want the wear on their stuff?

Hahaha, that is funny... given enough power, I could cut through our semi-permafrost, myself.

If there is an, economical reason, to 'trench', NOW - then - go for it. But, I, personally believe that I, can do a better job, in the Spring, with a, flathead shovel, and charge -- more than I'm worth... compared to a 'trenching machine... :)

Rule of Thumb: Always present the client, with - worst case scenario...

Yeah you'll be able to use a trencher in the winter with no problem, just making sure to get it filled before wet rain comes.

Check out a Vermeer or a Ditch Witch if you can for rental. I know when I rented a machine last fall, that the Vermeer I used had frost teeth on the trenching chain. It sounded like not all the machines had them, so specifically ask for that if you can.

The ground wasn't frozen yet, but it tore through most of the 4-6 inch roots around a tree I had to trench through.

You will be wasting your time with a walkbehind trencher now. You really need to wait till spring. kenneth lives in Maryland, not NY.

If its a walk behind trencher it most likely won't work.
