Well me and the neighbor had the great idea to plant winter rye this year for the first time. (Texas DFW) Our yards look like hammered doo doo now! By this time last year my Bermuda had come out and I was the envy of the neighborhood my lawn was so thick and green. Now it looks like I'm going through an August drought. My Bermuda is growing out real sporadic with huge bare spots in-between. It's embarrassing! It looks like its going to take forever for the bare spots to grow in.
What did I do wrong? Did I seed way to much and too thick?
As far as anybody trying to convince you that Winter Rye will keep weeds out during the winter they are lying! I would have challenged you to find ONE weed in my yard last year. Little did I know that hiding amongst the rye was a @^!@! load of weeds.
