Well I have searched past threads, and it looks like the Progressive 521 is the cadillac tracker. What would you do... buy new, or buy used w/ no instructions? From what I have read the instruction book is a must have? Then again that instruction booklet would be costing me $400... it seems used units are going for $300 or so. Is Progressive pretty much the only one you guys would reccomend?

the 521 can be used in so many ways
    finding cuts, valves.
marking gas, cable, phone, power, waterlines (if copper)
finding light wires to lamps, power lines to sheds etc.
finding 1 wire out od 10,20,30 wires that are cut using it's own voltage output, and a multimeter
best locater out there by far

You might look at the Pro Tech Pro600. I looked around and just bought one. So far it works fine and is supposed to be bothered less by interference from other electrical signals. Its also less expensive.
