wiring modifications

    Let's say you have a situation where you need to augment an existing zone and sufficient wiring was in place to support additional lights.

    Instead of adding new runs to an existing hub (approx 30ft runs from hub to fixture) you pigtail two fixtures to the runs you wish to modify and split the wattage and then extend the others to keep the run length consistent.

    The reason you may ask, is that to add new runs to the hub is relatively difficult and would be pretty disruptive to the area.

    So while not perfect by any means, what is the downside to doing this?

    I don't see a good reason not to given the wattage you show in the diagram.
    Your multi meter (with amp clamp) will give you the most useful answer.

    diagram looks fine to me. distance from trans to hub? guage of wire? 100 watts seems pretty doable on 12 guage. good luck

    We have done something similar to correct an existing install where the homerun was not replaceable without some major excavation (crossed driveway and into raised center island bed).

    We had to manipulate the wire gauges on the runs placing the closer ones on 12ga and the further ones on 10ga but we got everything within about 6/10 of a volt and within spec. Initially the trans installed only went to 13v. We had to swap it out and use an 18v tap.
