I just picked up a demo (85hrs) 2011 60" Hustler Super Z with a 37 HP gas kawasaki eng. I picked it up the day before thanksgiving and it ran fine. I brought home and drove it for about 10 minutes and put it in the garage. I have not been able to get it to start since. It cranks over well. There are no issues with the battery. It will backfire and that tells me it's getting spark and gas. I start with the choke open and the throttle around half way. I called my dealer and he said it sounds like it's flooded. He said maybe the spark plug is soaked with gas. If that is the case it should dry up by the next day. I really don't want to bypass the hydros and push this thing onto my trailer and take it to the dealer. Anybody have any ideas. Thanks Matt.

Check the gas and fuel shut off. Install a new spark plug.
Backfire suggests a timing issue--not good.

I usually start my engines just a tad over idle. I'm surprised the dealer hasn't come over to take a look at it. If I were him that's what I'd do rather than having someone messing with it.

The only one that will be messing with it will be the dealer. Thats why I bought a new / demo so I wouldn't have to work on it all the time.

I had a Fastrak do exactly what you are describing. I ran it for 2 hours, parked it for 3 days. When I tried to start it gas ran out the tailpipe where the muffler clamps on to it. I had had this mower for 8 years and it always started every time on about the 3rd revolution. I put new plugs in it and soaked them on the first crank.

After a couple of days of screwing around with it, I found a dirt daubers nest in a vacuum line off the carburetor. Check your vacuum line(s).
