I was wondering do most commercial accounts require that you have Workman's compensations insurance on your workers. Is this a normal requirement? I have several commercial accounts and have always been asked for business insurance but never for workmans comp.I was wondering if anyone has any input on this.

    Thanks Bob

It would depend on the account. 1 of mine hasn't required it yet, but 2 new ones required it. I haven't had to hire anyone until this year so I was able to opt out of workers comp insurance as my wife, step-son, and I were the only workers...until now...

Workman's comp laws vary by state. In NY it is a law for employers to carry workman's comp on their employees (theres a couple exceptions like hiring family members)

Yes you must have it if they ask for it. The basic reasoning is that if one of your employees is injured they would be responsible.
