    that is HUGE! Wouldn't the cloud forests of the Andes be colder than zone 7?! what a PITA that would be to bucket up and move indoors/outdoors!

    I always thought that the banana was the largest vascular perennial. (At least it's perennial if you live in the tropics.)

    Gunnera won't grow in Zone 3, but petasites japonica does - and it's PLENTY big.
