I am considering a 48" Wright Stander for my next purchase. The engine options are 17 kaw., 19 kaw., 20 briggs, 23 kaw. Anyone out there with experience know which I should choose? Is 17 hp enough? Is 23 too much? I have a Sentar with a 25 kaw. Other than some carb. problems I am happy with it. I really like the design of the stander I just don't know which engine to get. Thanks in advance.

Dont get the briggs. I have the 17 on my 42" and love it flying through wet tall grass and still cuts nice. Go with the 19 because you got 3 blades and a bigger mower to move. The 23 will cost more to buy and run unless you really need the power.

I would go with the 23. You can never have enough power. The 17 is nice on the walk behinds but you are also pulling your own weight around.

I have a 20 BS on my great dane. It's held up well. Kawi's are exellent engines but expensive to replace when the time comes.

I have a 52/23 stander and its amazing... even cuts through thick thick weeds.. I would go with the 23 kaw.

Sounds like a 48"/23hp Kaw. will be the golden ticket. Thanks guys.

This summer we purchased a 52 inch Stander with the 23 Kawasaki. We chose the 23 HP over the 19 HP to give us the added power for the early spring when growth is heavy. We were unable to get fuel economy charts to see what the extra power cost in fuel use. The extra power has been helpful on the few smooth larger areas we have that allow you to mow at a high ground speed. IIRC the larger engine was about 200 dollars extra.

    Best regards Wayne

Go with the 23. My dealer had a 48 with a 25 hp on it three weeks ago. Damn I wanted that! Got to stick to my plan though, new mower at end of 2006 season.

You will never be sorry you have extra power.

I talked to the guys at Wright mfg. a couple weeks ago and it's my understanding that you can get them with Kohler engines as well but you have to order them. I prefer the Kohler myself but get what ever floats your boat. You have to live with it for a couple years.

First don't buy a 48" model. There is no deck over hang for trimming. Just ask IMPACT. He is going for a new 52" next season.

    As for the 52" models
    17hp sucks
    19hp ok
    23hp great
    25hp O MY GOD :D

After looking closer at the pics on the website and flyer I see what you're talking about. The 48" wheels are as wide as the deck. I'm going tomorrow to get a price on the 52"/23hp. Thanks guys.
