I have grown up doing yards with my dad and uncle and have become accustom to just looking at a yard and knowing what to charge. Does anyone have any tips on how to quickly estimate the actual square footage of a yard?

Count the fence posts. They are usally 8 feet apart, I will measure one and then count them. And a measuring wheel is a must have item for estimates.

wheel. never guess. sure you can "eye " a quote for mowing, but chemical programs must be measured.

Yup - big wheel every time!

Get a big wheel measurer ($50-$60) at the hardware store and never guess again!

Thanks a lot for the info. I've seen the big wheels but I diddn't know you could get them at a hardware store.
