Has anyone had success with direct mail marketing? There is a company called Zairmail.com that looks like they have a nice program and cheap too. They have post cards for the green industry and I can buy a mail list that is very targeted. Has anyone used them? How much success have you had with direct mailings and what was the return volume on the letters that went out.

I sent out 5000 postcards last spring. I received around 5 new lawns and about 10 other onetime jobs like overseeding and dethatching. I expected more, but could have been worse. I had a postcard designed, the mailing list, the print and mailed for just under $2000. Next year I think I will try neighboorhood newsletters. For around $550 I could have the same 5000 postcards printed and inserted into newsletters. So for the same $2000 dollars I could hit 20,000 homes instead of 5000. As far as the response rate goes, most will say between 1% and 3%....I received about 1/2%.
