We recently purchased a home where the previous owners had let the backyard go completely to the point where it's about 90% weeds. Our plan is to kill off everything and then start from scratch. We've had multiple lawn companies suggest we use Zoysia due to the heat and somewhat shaded area we've got (though there's still a good bit of direct sunlight). Our backyard is ~4500 sq/ft and we're in Birmingham, AL. But we've also been told that Zoysia doesn't seed very well and that we should use sod instead. On a yard the size of ours, that gets expensive really really fast, so I'm curious if seeding Zoysia isn't as bad as others have made it out to be. Is that the case? Or should we seriously look at using Zoysia sod instead of seeds?
