I am thinking of sodding with zoysia. I have been told to look at the El Toro and Zeon varieties. Anyone know anything about this kind? Any other varieties you guys think looks great?

I maintained a el toro zoysia yard for 3 years. Very tough yard to maintain have to use either REEL type of mower or keep sharp blades at all times on the rotary style mowers. If you have dull blades it will brown the tips of the grass real bad.

El toro does not need much as far as water or fertilizer to look good....just cut often and short. I was cutting at 2" and it looked very good. Crept a little slower than bermuda so spraying roundup in beds wasen't to bad. Rutted very easily. While mowing you can see your foot prints for atleast a day left behind on the lawn.

With my experience with zoysia when you start to mow it one direction you have to keep doing it that direction as the ruts form really quick mowing against the flow will scalp bad as Zoysia is really bad about scalping.
