I have a Scag Tiger Cub and the left control has suddenly become hard to push and pull. I switched the small shock absorbers to see if the left one was bad but there's no difference. I can't see anything mechanical that could be the problem - all parts are greased and working. There is no difference in ground speed and the machine does not pull to one side or the other. Is the problem likely to be in the pump?

    Thanks.

control shaft may be binding on the outside of the pump

Have you checked all bearing surfaces? And I use the term bearing loosely. My ferris sits outside a lot and they like to use long tubes with round stock inside as bearings. There is little clearance for grease and I have had many seize up. Steering included. They are hard to diagnose. I usually disassemble and grind a couple flats axialy for the grease to move in the assembly.
