It seems like every post I've read about an ECHO 2400 anything(trimmer,edger,hedger,etc.)they have either broken or stopped working or just been problematic. Is this true and why??
Are ECHO 2400's really as bad as they sound???

If you had a 2000 Echo 2400 trimmer in 1980, it would have been the most wonderful, reliable piece of equipment on your crew.

I have a PE2400 edger and an SRM2400 trimmer that I've been using for about two and a half years now and the only problem I had was the pull starter rope on the trimmer. I average roughly 50 to 60 yards weekly. No problems yet so I can't complain.

I've had nothing but good experience with Echo. I have been using Echo since 1983. The trimmers I have now are 2501's (I thought they were 2601 but I was wrong) and I have had those for 4 years now, and they are still running strong. The only thing I had wear out was the reel where the string goes through the loop. It just wore all the way through this last time I respooled. My blowers are about that old too(Well, except the one that was stolen that I no longer have)and are going strong. No complaints, and I know what my next trimmers and blowers will be.

Someone dug this one out of the basement! :drinkup: Back 5 years ago when I originally replied to this thread, they were just starting to crack down on internet sales. I will say this though, I did manage to get a few more pieces without the Shindaiwa police coming after me. But they have become so scarce in these parts now at local dealers, and with having to know the secret password to get any dealer out of the area to ship one to ya, I have happily been changing over to Redmax.newz7151 said:

I have and have had several Echo products. Partly because our best 2 cycle dealer in town carries Echo, they're the only ones that cater to commercial cutters and know how to provide good service to commercial guys. I and everyone that has ever worked for me prefers the Stihls anyday, or in the case of the backpack blowers, the RedMax (i've always felt Stihl was behind with their backpacks). The Echo engines don't seem to run as strong and fast as a Stihl. They just don't make the power and thats what all my guys have said too. The Stihl may weigh a little more sometimes but its always worth it, everytime they always pickup the Stihl unless it ran outta string or fuel and we're in the middle of a job or on the last job of the day where its quicker to pickup the Echo than restring or refuel.
I have had a couple 2 or 3 different 2400's and they were both junk. Just a buncha stupid problems with them cannot remember what but they were sorta just lemons in general... its been a while since i had a 2400 thankfully... think the last time i used a 2400 was a year ago, we replaced it with a Stihl 85 and are in heaven!
The Echo backpack is pretty good. I still don't like the way Echo products start and run but the 650 is OK. After gettin the RedMax 8000 the 650 is not near as comfortable or powerful for the weight and price but if all you can get is Echo it would be ok. I just personally feel Echo is way behind in alot of ways... I would go on just fine if Echo ceased to exist... I've got several different models of Echos hoping maybe I just had a bad one or i would have a better experience but it never works out well. The 230 trimmer has been OK so far (got it cheap at a pawn shop practically new) but its hard starting and not super powerful. I think the Echo power loss is partly because Echo sets their carbs so lean to comply with emissions standards that wont' be in effect for a couple more decades so they claim... who cares! I want power and I want it now! I don't care what the government will require 3 years from now (after the machine is already worn out & replaced!) as long as its legal to sell it now at this moment gimme all the power I can get!
I'm offa my soap box now. sorry. anyway, yeah in my opinion the 2400 IS that bad.....

i am tru with echo too. it isnt what it used to be. all i have left still running is the old pb210e hand blowers which never say die. one 2400 edger (on its second lousey zama carb) one 2400 weedeater (very hard to start and wont run at full power anymore) 0ne 2400ln hand blower (an utter peice of crap!) . husky ,redmax.sthil and shindawia are way better these days
we've had good luck with echo. used shin's for years then it seemed like one day every new shin we bought sucked. so we switched to echo. i will say i love redmax but its to expensive to replace by the time my guys get done beating the crap out of them.. echos been pretty good and they are much cheaper than the rest....

and to post 20 years since the last comment in 2005..... to answer the op... I have a echo gt2400 trimmer... bought new back in 2005. Still runs like a top. Only ever changed the fuel lines, primer bulb and spark plug. I use echo oil and non ethanol gas.
