Hi All, new to this site. Wanted to know what type of shirts and pants you guys wear while cutting grass in the hot summer heat. Read something on here about actually being cooler in long-sleeve shirts because the sun dosn't hit you. Been cutting grass small time for about 10 years, and now that I want to go full time I want buy the right gear. Are there any long-sleeve shirts or pants that are breathable and will protect me from the sun. Are there any clothing lines designed specifically for us landscapers who spend all day in the sun. Tired of getting baked up in the summer sun.

I cant stand long sleeves in hot weather..I don't care WHAT kind of material it is. I wear a short sleeved uniform (polo type) shirt. Cargo type shorts.

Welcome ! You don't need Land's End to get good uniforms.

Gotta admit that when it's blazin', Salvation Army Thrift Store khaki slacks, white shirts, big hats work great.

Add sunscreen to arms, shoulders, neck, ears, and wear sunglasses.

:cool2:

I tried long sleeves last year and they do work. Get some of the long sleeve fishing shirts, they have UV Protectorant on them and are very breathable. They are alos a little spendy. All the Hispanics out here and I believe in most places always wear long sleeves and sometimes even sweatshirts. Look at the people in the Middle East, always completely covered. Look at the migrant farmers or pickers, always wearing long sleeves.

If I were going to wear long sleeves and long pants I would go for the fishing gear in a lighter shade of color. But I am just not sure I could take it in our summers. I know that certain types of long sleeve white dress shirts are cooler than my exposed skin. But in this business you can't wear white and I doubt any other color would be as cool as short sleeves.

Personally, I wear polos or tees and cargo style shorts.
Oddly, the type of polos I wear are cooler than the tees.
They breathe better I guess.

i have tried the long sleeve thing because when i worked with a paving company, that's what all the laborers wore, but it seemed hotter to me (psychological reason maybe?). maybe the arabs are just crazy...oh wait, nevermind. they are.:usflag:

Yah, but then Africans run around naked.

IMO if it is humid, no cotton, shorts and lightweight button up shirt ( i don't know what they are called, the kind you can almost see through). If it is clear and sunny and hot, try long sleave of same.

Whenever it is too hot here it is always very humid at the same time so, I gotta go with the shorts and T's crowd. Need as much air as possible hitting your skin when it is like this.

If there was just a way to wear shorts while trimming without getting your legs all scratched up life would be so much easier. I wear dark colored t shirts(skeeters!) and jeans, when it gets really hot I go home and change into dry clothes and hit it again.

We wear grey or khaki "jammin" shorts and nike dry fit shirts. These were what I wore when I was coaching, and they made a world of difference in the August heat during two a days here in Texas. These shirts almost feel like your not even wearing anything at all.

I bought one of these for a trip to the Carribean. I can't afford to get them for work. This is an absolute awesome shirt for hot weather & sun protection.

hillndale, that is exactly the type of shirt I was refering to. Hard to beat them. You can also get them with bug reppelant now.

Blue jean shorts and green t-shirts...

BTW, there's a guy that does some lawns in one of my neighborhoods that wears sweats all summer long like it was winter...they will be drinching with sweat; I don't care how hot/humid it is, he will be wearing them. I burns me up just to look at him LOL. I really don't know how he does it...he also wears heavy gloves.

i ware mens short sleeve dress shirts-light colors only. these are much cooler than t-shirts . you can get them used cheap at yard sales-goodwill -flea market -etc. i ware uniform shorts also from the flea market. a large hat helps alot in the hot sun. always ware sunscreen too.
