Ryobi trimmer dies...

I have a ryobi 25cc 2 cycle trimmer. Just today it started to die out on me! It will run for about 5-7 minutes at all speeds and the all of a sudden bog down and die. After about an hour it will start up again. I have cleaned the spark plug and cleaned the air filter and it is still happening!

Any help or ideas would be greatly apreciated!

I guess this is what I get for buying a Ryobi

Buy a commercial grade trimmer and trash that one. It will cost you more to fix than it is worth.

I would replace the fuel filter in the tank, if that doesnt do it i would junk it. I started with ryobi, and they arent worth much. Evan a homeowner stihl or echo would do ok if your working part time.

I had this problem on my stihl. In my case it was because the exhaust screen got clogged up. i dont know if a Ryobi has this screen or not, but if it does and it's your problem take the screen out and let it soak in gas or paint thinner but let it dry awhile or you will have a flame thrower(dont ask how i know)i got tired of cleaning mine and took it off. You said it will run for about 5 min, mine only ran for a min maybe less so i could be wrong.....wouldnt be the first time!

i havent tried paint thinner but when i was telling my dealer about it he said it works to. I have only used gas.

Yeah I might have to just trash this trimmer but still $130 is $130 so Im gonna try and fix it. Im gonna looki into the fuel filter today cos thats the only thing that I havent tried. So it runs today or a new echo or stihl will be bought! Thanks guys.

Yeah my dealer told me once that the ryobi 25cc design was tahen over by Stihl and improved for a homeowner model.My problem is Ihate Stihl trimmers! I have friends that swear by them but in my hands they suck! Echo 2400 or srm 260 Matthew

Well the Ryobi completely died today. LOL I thought they were $130 but they only $68 HAHA I definately go $68 dollars worth of it!

Check the fuel tank vent. Either in the fuel cap or a check valve from the tank. This is sometimes the problem.

I also made the mistake of bying a ryobi trimmer when I was first starting out. It didn't take me long to kill it. All Echo now. Anyone thinking of buying and using homeowner equipment, save yourself a lot of headaches and go commerical. You get what you pay for.(Most of the time, anyway)

Try taking off the muffler and check for carbon build up. Spark arrestor screens really add to this problem.

First off, get a new trimmer. Cost of fixing just ain't worth it. Second off. Keep the trimmer around for now. Wait till one day you are royally pissed off and stressed out. Got to any body of water 4 feet or deeper. WING that puppy and feel the glory of happiness flow through you. (Don't let know one see you do this if it is on private land and be sure to remove any incrimating markings)

PS. I have not done this and know of no body that has. :angel:

I think I have the answer..
you dont have enough oil mixed with the gas...Too Lean
My homelite blower does that if gas is not mixed up properly.
It gets hot and starts to seize up a bit..Cools off its fine.
try adding a bit more oil to it and shake it well..
may solve your problem, has for me a couple of times

This is a common problem with sting trimmers . The gas caps on two cyl trimmers are like one way valves letting air in but nothing out this usualy keeps the gas from reaching the carb . TRY CHANGING THE GAS CAP sounds like its plug

I started my first season with a Ryobi. Big mistake. Plastic clutch housing melted and the front end fell off. Definitely not suitable for commercial use. Spend the extra bucks for a shindiawa, it's well worth it. :dizzy:

the exhaust port may be clogged with carbon. check it. if its clogged, clean it out.

your best bet is to trash it as others have said,it probbally has a scored cylinder and losses it compression when it gets hot because of the cheapness they are made of .or it cold have an air leak,when it gets hot ,even home depot in this area gave them up
