so I needed an edger I usually buy redmax stuff but decided to look into the stihl kombi unit since no dealer had a dedicated edger in stock and I needed it for this weekend. the redmax one i wanted was 2 weeks out i was told. my dealer tried to sell me thier multi one but only had 23cc and not alot of attachments . so went to stihl and ended up getting the km 110 kombi cause they had no km 130. got it home and started it and seems to lack some power but im not used to 4 mix the spec is 31cc i think and the km130 has 36cc.
So did i make a mistake ? should I have gotten the 130 ? anyone use these tools maybe its just the sound of the 4 mix that makes it seem to lack power

I've got the 110 and it seems to me like with the edger, it over revs...like it has TOO much power. I do know this...I have a 110R trimmer and the kombi unit is a lot heavier...my big butt got out of shape this winter!!

There is no lack of power, your just not used to the 4mix.
Thats what I was thinking. just sounds different and Im used to 2 strokers. I will say its a nice unit and seems comfy to handle

Yes you did make a mistake. I had the same unit and the straight edger leaves a bad finish. And yes it is heavy. Get a redmax stick edger if can return it. The 4 mix will need valve adjustments and other stuff 2 cycles won't need. Also I found the 110 to be really bad on gas. Worse than my stihl 85s!!

I think it's the 4mix sound that is getting you. It sounds like it's not revving up enough but it's really a 4 cycle hitting up NEAR 2 cycle digits. It has much more torque than a comparable 2 cycle, but it's a hybrid engine. It is definately different, sounds like a 600lb bumble bee:weightlifter:
I used a Km110 yesterday to edge about 1/2(total) mile that hasn't been edged in 4 years other than a little string here and there. Yes, it was somewhat tedious and the extra aluminum on the combi was a noticeable weight difference to a dedicated unit.

To answer you main question, yes, I would see if your dealer won't swap out for the KM130. It has a HUGE power increase from the others

km90 1.27hp good power, more than adequate for landscaping
km110 1.3hp may as well have bought the 90
km130 1.9hp noticeable power increase!, shaft twists in hand with throttle

I wanted the redmax hez3001s its got 29.5 cc but i guess they are discontinuing this model cause my dealer said it would take a while to get and its not on the redmax website. So what redmax unit would you reccomend

That's a beast of an edger! A 25cc should well though. I have the 22.5 he225 and it's not designed for thick stuff. I wish I got a bigger one.

I stay with Redmax, use your string trimmer to get by for one extra week.

I got a edgit for my redmax trimmer but it cuts too big a gap for sidewalks. I tried to space it as the paper said but now i cant access the hole for the tool on the head. and it still cuts too big a gap

bt, Stick with Stihl I have a dedicated FC110 and when I first got it it would literally pull me along as I tried to edge. Scott, I totally disagree about the quality of the edge, my machine cuts perfect, tell me this what type of blade were you running? by type I mean thickness. I found that the power of the machine is too much of the economy blades, I buy the thicker blades (3.8mm) and they will cut through the nastiest crap you can through in front of them plus they last a lot longer.

Good choice. I actually have the KM90 and the 130. The 90 will do the job but the 130 is a beast.
Thats why i decided on the km 110 . one thats the only one they had in stock and two i figured that it shoud be enough to do the job and wasnt sure i really needed the 130

Anything wrong with Redmax?
I like the redmax stuff holds up great but for the kombi unit i think still has a better setup with more options. I do see you dont own any redmax stuff do you perfer echo or troybuilt over redmax

I was using the cheap dollar blades. It just wouldn't leave a clean edge at all. I will keep that mind about the thicker blades if I decide to make one of my 85's a edger and buy another trimmer.

No!!! My Troybilt was my first trimmer only. I use Honda. I was choosing between Redmax BCZ3001S and Honda HHT35S until I ran across a brand new discontinued HHT31SUNBA which has a push rod 31cc engine ( instead of a timing belt 35cc engine). I can't resist it, it was either that or never!!!! So I bought the Honda. Till today, I still question whether I make the right choice. That is how much I like the Redmax. Echo never came into the equation!!!! I am a Honda & Redmax fan!!!

When I was buying the Mantis tiller, I was looking at the Redmax mini tiller, it is suppose to be the Mantis with Redmax engine, I email to Redmax to confirm whether I can use the Mantis dethatcher attachment on the Redmax and they could not verify that, I end up bought the Mantis with Honda engine. I wish I can get the Redmax if I can fit the dethatcher. Too bad Redmax is not willing to sell the engine for the tiller, I have all the part list, I am sure it can fit right onto the Mantis. They even kept the Mantis part number.

I am planning to buy the short reach hedge trimmer from Redmax.....SHTZ2401???
