The vent on the cap is not working properly. If it's a fairly new machine, make the dealer give you a new cap, otherwise, pick one up and replace it.

Cub Cadet has a problem with their fuel caps leaking out of the vent hole. They have a up-dated cap to use that is suppose to stop this from happening.

your welcome. It might have a piece of dirt in the inside of the cap where the hole is. When heat builds pressure in the tank, if the hole is not open good, it will not vent right and cause fuel to get pushed out from the pressure.

maybe cap is bad or it might just be splashing out on my husqvarna thats all it was i was filling the tank to full and everytime i hit a bump some would come up through the hole

Tank only half full when it started.

My Exmark does the same if the fuel tanks are over 3/4 full. But the odor is strong, and I hate when it does that. Great question! I have wondered about the fuel filter too, but it still continued after I replaced the filter. I will get a couple of gas caps and try it.

All three of my new Gravelys do this. But they only do it when totally full and usually when it's very hot. If I run one tank for 5-10 minutes and then switch over to the other, problem solved.:)
Ummmm.......gas expands when it gets hot.......like it says in the mower manuals. You're suppose to leave like 1/2" - 1" of air at the top of your gas tanks - EVEN when you FILL them! :)

cub cadet tell you in the owner manual not to over fill maybe thats why you had problems with your tank, did you read how to run it , service it ..........:cool2::cool2::cool2::cool2::cool2::cool2::cool2::cool2::cool2::cool2:

never had this problem unless the tanks are MAX full...ya know the little stump on the top of the tank, were the lid screws on to...we usually stop about an inch shy of that..

like i said, always run exmarks, never had this problem

Did you even read the last or the first post? The guy asking this has a Gravely & in the last post the guy (that made that post) stated that he only fills his tanks to 1" BELOW the tip?!?!
i was talking one post up to grassley so dont you worry about me ......go mow some grass ...............................:hammerhead::hammerhead:

I've had issues with most of the different brands I've tried with this. With the hard, fast movents that can be made with a ztr and a large walk, the fuel can really splash around quite a bit in the tanks. Also with the expansion of the gas on a warm day, you will see this issue. It seems like exmark has come up with a pretty good splash proof cap (any way the one on my unit does a good job), but nothing will be leak proof until they go to a sealed system since that vent is the downfall.

don't be a jackass. I've been a certified auto tech for 30 years. I know how much fuel to put in the tanks. I could take the mower apart and put it back together without a manual on any given day. Being it was a CC, it would be better then new if I put them together. They have the worst QC of any company in the business. The dealer TOLD me CC has a problem with the gas caps and offer a up-dated cap to replace the leaking caps. and for the record, the fuel tank on the CC I had was defective. The lip where it seals to the cap was deformed and was leaking enough fuel to make the rear tire wet with fuel. That was the side the vent on the cap WAS NOT leaking, but the other side. So, the tank was bad on the left and the cap was bad on the right.
