What is the best way of ridding Zoysia of Bermuda, I used Fusilade II but it really doesn't work very well, I used .75 oz. per gallon with 1/2 oz. surfactant per gallon, is this to weak for spot spraying? Any help is appreciated.
I have also decide to bite the bullet this year and started killing it off with Round up but it seems like the roots just aren't being killed off since it starts to pop up again on the outside of the kill off, I hate it!

I have had fairly good results from Ornemec in controlling the Bermuda outbreaks in my Zoysia. Follow label instructions and you will see the same. Don't expect immediate results though. Although it was only a few days before I noticed the change in the bermuda it was after a few mowings that I really saw positive results. Big decrease in the growth after 1rst mow and no growth after the second a week later.

If you want bermuda dead, then the label rate of Ornamec + 1 quart of Turflon Ester is what you want. Notice I did not say how much per gallon. When treating for bermuda, assume it is all over, even if you do not see it.

dave k, did you ever try this? I have a beautiful emerald zoysia lawn that is getting a bermuda infestation that I am having a very hard time controlling. I also have an asian jasmin flowerbed that could benefit from this.

I am leery about using chemicals on my zoysia because the last time I used Image to control crab grass, I killed my emerald zoysia too. Not good!

I don't have it handy, but I've read at least one study (very detailed) that showed that adding the Turflon as a tankmix partner improves Zoysia's tolerance either Fusillade or Acclaim Extra. Plus, Turflon has activity on bermuda. You may want to tracking that down to allay any concerns.

That is completely true. I have screwed up many zoysia lawns by spraying straight Fusilade or Ornamec. In many cases it appeared that the zoysia was as badly affected as the bermuda and crabgrass. Acclaim is the same on zoysia as well. Once I started applying Turflon ester with Fusilade, no more zoysia injury and improved control of bermuda. It is a case of 2+2=5.

I would ask Greendoctor, he's the expert

Check your PM's, I've been trying to get hold of you regarding the Fusilade II
I have the tank and boom from Roy, just need your expertise with the dosage!
Thanks
Dave

Can you send me the study?

Spitwad, I just sprayed my yard yesterday using the Fusilade II and the turflon ester will repeat the process in 28 days, I went a little light on the Fusilade but will up it a little on the next round. Will keep you posted.
I used a tank and boom with 8005 teejet nozzles. I used approx. 15 gallons of water and I was going about 4.5 MPH to cover the 23k sq. feet that I have.

Thanks for the update. I read some news using Ortho grass-b-gon which is no longer on the market. Evidently if you use the above mentioned diluted to .12%, it would kill the bermuda and only harm the zoysia. Well, I found a similar product that was produced by Green Light that was .17% in a spray bottle.

I thought, well what do I have to loose? Well... my Zoysia. At this point the product is great at getting rid of the bermuda in my Asian Jasmine beds, but it really did hurt my Emerald Zoysia. The zoysia appears to be coming back, but it has been a month now. Not good!

This combo of Fusilade II and Turflon Ester works better than I ever could imagine! No damage to the Emerald Zoysia except where I forgot to turn off the pump and it ran for several seconds, very slight discoloration there.
The Bermuda is brown and looks to be completley dead! Will find out this spring, so all who have problems use this combo and you should do just fine, I may start another tread with pictures....

What ratio did you use with FusiladeII and Turflon Ester? I noticed you mentioned that you went a little lighter with the FusiladeII but never saw the ratio you used.
Bermuda Grass Control in Zoysia Grass

Fusilade II = 6 oz per ac. or .14 oz per 1000 sq ft

5 oz per ac. or .12 oz per 1000 sq ft

4 oz per ac. or .10 oz per 1000 sq ft

Turflon = .75 oz per 1000 sq ft

Surfactant = 2 oz per gal of spray solution

23,000 sq ft = 3 oz of Fusilade IIÂ…Â…18 oz TurflonÂ…Â…32 oz Surfactant

23 x .13 = 3 oz of Fusilade II

23 x .75 = 18 oz of Turflon (this is rounded up)

15 x 2 = 32 oz of Surfactant Per 15 Gal of Solution
(this is rounded up)

I got these figures from Puppypaws, couldn't have done it without his help!
This is for 23k sq. feet of turf in 15 gallons of water traveling at 4.5 MPH on my Walker with the tank and boom set up.
Hope this helps.

Dave i forgot all about the pictures you wanted me to send you. I will be sure to send them over tomorrow. Oh and like there is room for any bermuda to grow in your zoysia.. Your yard has to me on steroids or something. LoL
