I have a customer that has a old chain link fence and his neighbors over the years put up a nice pvc fence around his property. so he wants me to take the old chain link fence down. it would be difficult to dig out post because its very close to the pvc fence. customer is ok with me just cutting post down as long as he doesn't see it. is it possible to use a replicating saw and just cut post down to the ground?? i never down this before so any help would be appreciated.

A grinder will work if it is a good sized one. A 4" angle grinder would be torture especially if access is limited to one side. I'd either use my gas powered demo saw or if I didn't have that a good metal cutting blade on my 10" circular saw.

Dont over do it. A good metal blade on a receprocating saw/sawzall should be fine. Dont get it at Home Depot or Lowes, get a real one or you ll be there all day.
i have a good dewalt receprocating saw i bought at homedepot and i bought yesterday some 10 and 14 tpi blades to cut the metal. will that work??

what blade would you recommend? unfortunately home depot and lowes are the only 2 stores that are close to me. any recommendations on which one to buy??
Go to a lumber yard or tool rental depoot. Often times they sell power tools and have better quality blades and bits and whatnot.

Ask any carpenter or plumber. They work with power tools more than we do.

If it were my job, I'd run a gas chop saw with abrasive blade and go to town.

Another vote for the 4.5" hand held angle grinder,
cut the whole pipe off with the same wheel and all.

How I know this will work, I've cut through 1/4" thick exhaust steel tubing with mine,
those aluminum fence pipes should drop a whole lot quicker.

DO:
Wear long pants, long sleeve shirt or sweater, gloves, hearing protection and goggles.
Just in case that wheel splits up and some chunks go flying.
Oh, and buy a few extra grinding wheels, too.

Yeah, that would be effective as well.

My vote goes for the 'sawzall'. A simple metal cutting blade will be MUCH easier and just as fast as an angle grinder. Remember, with the angle grinder, a 4.5" you only have about 1.5" of blade depth to cut with, and that's only when the blade is brand new. If you cant get the grinder around the pole 360 degrees you are going to have a tough time cutting through them with it.

If you aren't planning to save any of it, just cut away. The bolt cutter wouldn't hurt, again, if you have no plans to save the hardware, caps, ends, etc. If so, take a socket set and wrenches.

Please read my first post use a diamone blade not a grinding blade it will cut through it like hot butter with few sparks. When u cut half way through just bend post back and fourth and it will break off at the cut. May take sledge hammer and beat doun edges. This will take less than 5min per post we do it all the time
